Johns Island: The largest island in South Carolina is also one of the most treasured places to people living around Charleston.  Still rural in a lot of areas, this island is beautiful with countless mature oaks lining the roadways and many wide stretches of marsh and tidals leading to the intracoastal waterway.  One of the few areas where you can still find large tracts of land to build, Johns Island has become a haven for people drawn to privacy, boating, and a slower pace.  Johns Island boast many magnificient properties with unmatched water view that get up into the millions.  At the same time, there are still a lot of properties that people have had in their families forever and have not been taken care of that can be eyesores.  There is a lot of opportunity here for people wanting to buy and renovate or build there dream home on a nice parcel.  This is also a great place for those interested in having horses and picking up some fresh shrimp from the Stono Market on the way home.  The more sought after communities include Rushland, Briar's Creek, Gift Plantation, and Grimball Gates among others.  Additional information can be found here;

James Island: James Island is the island across the Stono River from West Ashley and across the harbor from Historic Charleston.  Well established and convenient to bothe downton and Folly Beach, James Island is generally sought by people working downtown or with an affinity for the beach.  Folly Rd is the main thoroughfare throughout the island and can get congested at peak traffic times.  There are plenty of restaurants and decent shopping throughout the island.  Home prices vary greatly from older ranch style homes off Fort Johnson ($200,000ish) that need a lot of repair, to grand waterfront homes in Stiles Point over $2,000,000.  There are plenty of affordable townhomes under $200,000 here for those looking for a 2nd home or less maintenance.

Folly Beach:  Known as the edge of America, Folly Beach is a sought after haven for surfers and beach lovers.  There are some nice homes on this little island as well as some "Beach Bungalows" that may still run well over $700,000.  There are usually a lot of rentals here as well that people may rent on a weekly basis.  Little oak island is one of my favorite spots here.  Some nice homes as well as nifty condos.  Folly Rd is your only road on or off of Folly Island.  Most of the shopping will be on James Island.
